Injury Number One

July 13, 2007

Well wouldn't you know it? Jack was only crawling for one day before we already had an injury. Thursday he was crawling around and pulled this bowl on the fireplace over and on to his finger leaving a little cut. Of course I cried longer than he did. I was sitting within 3 feet of him when he did it. I thought the bowl was too heavy for him to pull over. Lesson learned for me...do not underestimate this child.

So on Friday we had to go see the pediatrician. No, not for his finger but for his 6 month check-up and shots. She was so impressed to see him crawling and the other things he does. Her words were, "this child thinks he's nine months old!". She also noticed the cut finger so she gave me some antibiotic ointment that "kills anything, because you are going to need it". She said she didn't think this would be Jack's last injury. I agree. I told you he's a wild man. Then Jack had to get his 3 shots. He did so good. He had a temporary loss of control and then it was all better when I picked him up and he had a bottle.

After that we went to Fort Payne for the weekend. It was a pretty rough night for Jack. His shots made him so sore and fussy. We were up most of the night. We stayed at Nana and Pop's. On Saturday Jack went to see Grandma and Grandpa for the night and came home on Sunday. The good news is no shots at the nine month check-up. On Monday we went to lunch with Aunt Angie and my friend January who came to town for a visit. She couldn't believe how much Jack had grown since she saw him last. She said he looks like "a little man".

Crawling

July 6, 2007

He did it!! And I missed it!! Right after I left for work I got the call from daddy who reports crawling. I knew it was coming but I had hoped I would be there. Now we have catch that on video.

We also had a visit from cousins Nathan, Mary Ann and Will. They came over and had dinner. Will is 2 years old and a cutie. He liked to give Jack kisses.

The Soldier

July 5, 2007

Just a routine day. Except for Jack's realization of an extra appendage. I put him into the bath and he was playing like usual. And then the hand drifted south and he found the soldier. He proceeded to give a little pinch and then laughed. That pretty much continued throughout the rest of bath time.

He has two teeth on the bottom now. He's up on all fours and rocking so he'll probably crawl soon. He figured out how to get his toes into his mouth and thinks that it is fun to do that while he is in his high chair eating. He loves to ride around the house on Jonathan's shoulders.

A little bit of sentiment here. As I was putting Jack to bed he was being his usual sweet self. It's about the only time that he's not moving around like a wild man. He was just smiling and 'talking' and my thought was "I love this moment, this very moment". All of these funny and sweet things that he does, that's what I think. How do you remember every single moment?

Fireworks

July 4, 2007

We went over to Aunt Angie's who happens to be our new neighbor! Jack had a big day eating fruit and watching Lindsay, Kayla and Uncle Todd shoot fireworks. Jack has these little mesh feeders that you can put practically anything in and he won't get choked. He LOVES it. Among the favorites are pickles, hot dogs and any kind of fruit. Some things get pretty messy.

He had some watermelon for the fourth and some cherries. Cherries made a mess.

I thought Jack would be scared of the loud fireworks. Quite the contrary, he liked them. The noise didn't bother him and he loved to watch the lights. He was up way past bedtime and exhausted by the time he finally went to sleep

Big Fun

June 29, 2007

Jonathan and I both had very busy weeks at work. On Friday Pop came to take Jack to Fort Payne for the weekend. I teared up when he left. I miss him so badly when I have to be away from him. He spent Friday with Nana and Pop and Saturday with Grandma and Grandpa. He of course was spoiled rotten.
On Sunday we met half way and took Jack to some friends river house. He liked it. He was outside and he loves that. He also got to meet his first friend, Porter. He had lots of fun playing on a blanket with his new friend. Porter is one month older than Jack. It was lots of fun to watch the two of them interact.
We usually spend a good amount of time there so he will have the opportunity to play with Porter again. Next time we are going to get there early enough to take Jack out on the boat!
